Pioneers shut down Falcons in win Friday + win Saturday vs Ice Dogs for weekend sweep!

Pioneers stay atop the #GLHL standings

HOUGHTON — With a three-goal first period, and three more over the course of the night, the Portage Lake Pioneers earned a 6-2 win over the Eagle River Falcons Friday night at Dee Stadium.

Six different goal scorers chipped in for the Pioneers in the win.

Forward Matthew Halonen got the Pioneers on the board just 1:11 into the contest. Forwards Cale Markham and Nick Harris assisted on the goal.

Forward Austin Mikesch made it 2-0 Portage Lake with a goal at 4:46. Forward Brett Hauswirth and defenseman Ross Rouleau both earned assists on the goal.

Defenseman Anthony Harris then put the Pioneers up 3-0 at 8:20. Defensemen Craig Halonen and Mark Halonen both picked up assists.

The Falcons got one back before the opening frame came to an end.

Portage Lake regained the three-goal lead just 1:49 into the second when Markham found the back of the net. Defenseman Riley McKay and Nick Harris were both awarded assists on the tally.

The Falcons answered back a little over 11 minutes later to make it 4-2. Nick Harris then regained the three-goal lead for the Pioneers with a goal at 19:25. Matthew Halonen had the lone assist.

Rouleau scored the game’s final goal with 11 seconds left in the third period. Hauswirth and forward Dawson McKay both assisted on the goal.

Goaltender A.J. Petrulis made thirty saves to earn the win.




Saturday the Pioneers clinched another win against the Fox Cities Ice Dogs with a 6-3 final!
