Pioneers top Bears

HOUGHTON — With two goals from Cody Sivonen, the Portage Lake Pioneers earned a 7-2 win over the Fond du Lac Bears Friday night at the Dee Stadium.
Sivonen’s first goal put the Pioneers up 3-0 in the first period when he scored at 10:15. Defenseman Charlie Turner and winger Wyatt Geshel assisted on the goal.
Sivonen’s second came at 5:31 into the third, and it put the Pioneers up 6-1 at that point. Defenseman Matt Marchel and center Dawson McKay both assisted on the goal.
Portage Lake scored the game’s first three goals. Forward Austin Mikesch got things started at 2:31. Defenseman Riley McKay and forward Jonathan Bostwick assisted on the goal.
Forward Brett Hauswirth scored the Pioneers’ second goal at 4:08. Center Spencer Donnelly and winger Zach Hill assisted on the tally.
Up 3-1 in the second period, Dawson McKay extended the lead at 2:52. Mikesch and defenseman Anthony Harris earned assists.
Center Matthew Halonen extended the lead to 5-1 when he struck at 7:05. Marchel and center Nick Harris both picked up assists on the goal.
Up 6-1 in the third, Portage Lake got one more goal, this time from Turner at 11:55 assisted by Sivonen and Geshel.
The Bears added one more goal of their own with 5:25 left in the contest.
Goaltender A.J. Petrulis made 23 saves to earn the win for the Pioneers.
