Pioneers stay perfect against Mutineers!
2023-12-11Pioneers score six in the second period to top Mutineers in Ontonagon
ONTONAGON — Spencer Donnelly scored twice as the Portage Lake Pioneers earned a 9-3 win over the Marquette Mutineers Saturday and the Ontonagon Recreational Center.
The Pioneers threw 69 shots at Brodie Goddard over the course of the game on their way to the win.
The Pioneers got on the board just 5:55 in when Zach Hill scored. Brett Hauswirth and Donnelly both assisted on the goal.
Charlie Turner put the Pioneers up 2-0 with a goal with 1:21 left in the opening frame. Donnelly picked up his second assist on that goal.
In the middle frame, Donnelly got Portage Lake on the board just 33 seconds in. Hauswirth then scored less than a minute later. Donnelly picked up his third assist of the night on that goal.
Alex Sears pushed the Pioneers’ advantage to 5-0 at 8:14.
The Mutineers finally got on the board 1:41 later, but Nick Harris, Donnelly, and Hill scored three goals in a span of 4:18 to push Portage Lake’s lead to 8-1. Hauswirth picked up an assist on Hill’s second goal of the night.
In the third, Jamie Laux scored to the Pioneers up 9-1 just 3:00 in. Harris had the lone assist on the goal.
Marquette scored the game’s final two goals in the game’s last 7:30.
A.J. Petrulis made 27 saves to earn the win.
