Pioneers get the split on the weekend

2018-11-26

The rivalry continues...

The Pioneers split the 2-game exhibition weekend against the Wolverines over the weekend.

The Pioneers were able to claim their first win on the season Friday night in their first home game with a score of 3-2. The team was down 2-1 before Matt Mantta was able to find the back of the net to tie the game late in the second. Midway through the third, Tyler Bailey had the game-winning goal with a wrister from the top of the circles as the Pioneers managed to hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game.

A back-and-forth game took place at the Colosseum on Sunday as the Pioneers found themselves down 3-2 in the third period before Matt Zerbst and Tyler Bailey scored back-to-back goals in under a minute. It was looking like the Pioneers would hold on but the Wolverines managed to score a goal with 30 seconds left on the clock, forcing the game to overtime that went scoreless. The game had to be determined by an eight-round shootout before Calumet was able to score, claiming the victory.

The Pioneers next games will be against Calumet where the rivalry will continue with another home-and-home series, December 21-22.
